C-Saw Hill

file_002-1Brandon and Lisa Higgins farm sustainably on 32 acres near Rutherfordton, and are teaching vocational agriculture students at RS Central High School to do the same.  Brandon & Lisa formed C-Saw Hill to ensure that their family would be safe from over processed, factory food. Their goal is to provide consumers with the same high-quality products that they enjoy.

Brandon grew up in the Shiloh community, where his family raised cattle. After graduating from NC State, he went to work for a farm in Colorado. Lisa was also raised on a cattle farm, in Pennsylvania, and attended Penn State. The two met as they managed pork operations for Smithfield Foods. The Higgins soon grew tired of farming for the corporate entity and moved back to Rutherford County to teach.

C-Saw Hill produces a variety of grass-fed, antibiotic free, no hormone added meats…

Heritage Pork: Brandon & Lisa raise heritage Berkshire pork, the most sought after pork in the world. Berkshire pork looks and taste like no other pork. Unlike commodity pork or “The OTHER white meat” Berkshire pork is visibly different. It has a darker, richer color with an abundance of intramuscular marbling (like a good steak) its flavor is distinctive with an unparalleled juiciness and tenderness

Pastured Poultry: C-Saw Hill birds grow in the open sunshine, and are moved to a fresh salad bar daily. This builds the birds’ immune systems and eliminates the need for antibiotics.  Brand & Lisa purchase chicken feed that is locally grown, helping to grow a better product and to support other farmers in our community.  Their birds are processed by friends in the open sunshine (instead of a dark, damp chicken factory by people who don’t care about you).  C-Saw Hill gives your food individualized attention, making their chicken safer and more nutritious.

Grass-fed Beef: Brandon & Lisa only produce 100% grass-fed beef. Like all file_004-1their other pasture raised animals, these steers are moved daily to fresh, new grass. A major benefit of raising animals on pasture is that their products are healthier for you.  Compared with feedlot meat, meat from grass-fed beef has less total fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, and calories. It also has more vitamin E, beta-carotene, vitamin C, and a number of health-promoting fats, including omega-3 fatty acids and “conjugated linoleic acid,” or CLA.
